NUS-GRTII-affiliated PhD Programme

Programme Overview

· NUS Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute (GRTII) is jointly established by NUS, Guangzhou and the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City in 2023. Located in China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (GKC), GRTII will focus on research translation and innovation, incubation of high-techstart-ups, R&D talent training programmes for Guangzhou and the Greater Bay Area.

· NUS-GRTII-affiliated PhD Programme aims to train PhD students with a focus on translational research. The PhD scholars will be recruited to conduct research in GKC's strategic areas: Smart City, Information & Communication, Electronic Science & Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Technology and FinTech. To leverage on NUS’ interdisciplinary research platforms, the PhD scholars will be based in Singapore throughout the 4-year programme. The PhD scholars may also have opportunities to engage in short-term research activities outside of NUS campus, including GRTII. As this programme is sponsored by the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Administrative Committee, the PhD scholars are required to fulfil a 2-year service obligation in Huangpu District of Guangzhou City upon graduation.

Admission Requirements

· Open to all nationalities, proficient in Chinese

· GRE and TOEFL/IELTS scores are required, if medium of instruction at undergraduate university is not English

· Please refer to respective faculties and schools for the details on the admission requirements

 

Scholarship Details

· Full tuition fee subsidies for 4 years

· Stipend per month S$2,700 before Oral Qualification Examination (OQE) and S$3,200 after OQE (to be adjusted based on Singapore MOE guidelines)

· Sign a service agreement (underwritten by a qualified guarantor) to serve 2-year service bond in Huangpu District of Guangzhou after graduation

· Accepted forms of service: self-employed, employed under government or any business entities, or continue research work in research institutions, such as NUS-GRTII

· Administered and managed in accordance with the NUS Terms and Conditions
