The National University of Singapore Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute (NUS GRTII), a collaboration between NUS, the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality, and the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Administrative Committee, is the university’s flagship initiative in China’s Greater Bay Area.
This NUS Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute Masters’ Scholarship is sponsored by Guangzhou's Huangpu District and aims to leverage the world-class educational resources of the National University of Singapore to support highly qualified master's degree holders with a global perspective and cutting-edge technological knowledge.
As one of the first national-level economic and technological development zones, Huangpu District in Guangzhou specializes in seven industries: Smart City, Information and Communication, Electronic Science and Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence, Biological Sciences and Financial Technology. It hosts leading high-tech companies like Xpeng Motors, CVTE, BeiGene, and WeRide, along with numerous research institutes, offering extensive career development opportunities for our talents.
The scholarship is open to students who have confirmed the acceptance of the Letter of Offer from the National University of Singapore (NUS) for one of the 20 eligible Masters’ Programmes listed in the table NUS GRTII Masters' Scholarship Eligible Masters’ Programmes starting in the AY2025/2026 (August intake). Each scholarship provides a tuition subsidy of S$45,000. Recipients will complete their studies at NUS. Upon graduation, they will be required to return to the Huangpu District to work or start a business for at least twenty-four (24) months. This obligation must be completed no later than thirty (30) months after graduation.
· Be admitted to one of the NUS's Masters' Programmes (August 2025) listed above.
· Agree to sign a service bond agreement with Guangzhou Development District Talent Work Group to work for at least twenty-four (24) months in Huangpu District of Guangzhou City after graduation. You will have thirty (30) months to fulfill this obligation.
· Be proficient in Chinese.
· Scholarship recipients are required to meet all ongoing and graduation criteria of their master’s programs. Failure to comply will lead to the forfeiture of their scholarship.
· Scholarship recipients are required to sign a service bond with Guangzhou Development District Talent Work Group and commit to fulfilling the service bond to work for at least twenty-four (24) months in Huangpu District of Guangzhou City upon graduation. Scholarship recipients may be self-employed, employed under government or any business entities. This obligation must be completed no later than thirty (30) months after graduation.
· Scholarship recipients are required to secure a qualified guarantor who will co-sign the service bond with the Guangzhou Development District Talent Work Group. The guarantor will assume joint and several liability for compensation in the event of a breach of contract by the recipient.
· In case of breach of contract, scholarship recipients will be required to refund the scholarship award received to NUS GRTII and bear the corresponding liquidated damages.

A1: As the fourth research institute of NUS in China, the NUS Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute (hereafter "NUS GRTII") is a collaborative initiative established by the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality, the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Administrative Committee and the National University of Singapore (NUS). A2: The NUS GRTII Masters’ Scholarship Programme (hereafter "Masters’ Scholarship") is designed for outstanding students admitted to NUS master’s programmes who aspire to pursue entrepreneurship or employment in Huangpu District of Guangzhou upon graduation. It is sponsored by Guangzhou's Huangpu District and aims to leverage the world-class educational resources of the National University of Singapore to support highly qualified master's degree holders with a global perspective and cutting-edge technological knowledge. As the eligibility to apply for the scholarship is to obtain NUS’s offer for one of the eligible Masters’ Programmes of the Scholarship, scholarship recipients will complete their studies at NUS.
Recipients will be required to sign a service bond with Guangzhou Development District Talent Work Group and commit to fulfilling the service bond to work for at least twenty-four (24) months in Huangpu District of Guangzhou City upon graduation. This obligation must be completed no later than thirty (30) months after graduation. Each scholarship recipient will receive a tuition subsidy of S$45,000 all at once after they sign the bond and enroll at NUS.

A3: NUS offers more than a hundred master’s programmes. Tuition fees for NUS master’s programmes range approximately from SGD 45,000 to SGD 70,000 (RMB 240,000–380,000; SGD to RMB exchange rate as of April 1, 2025: 5.4108). Monthly living expenses (covering basic food, accommodation, and transportation) average SGD 2,200 (RMB 11,880). The candidature periods of the eligible Masters’ Programmes of the NUS GRTII Masters’ Scholarship typically range from 1 to 1.5 years.
Tuition fees for specific programmes are subject to official information published by the relevant NUS faculty/school. Living expenses are estimates and may vary based on individual circumstances.
A4: Yes, provided they meet the scholarship eligibility criteria.
A5: Programme duration is determined by the respective NUS faculties. Generally, the normal candidature periods for programmes under this scholarship are 1–1.5 years.
A6: The following outlines the application and signing process for the AY2025/2026 scholarship (for reference only; actual steps may vary).
A7: The Agreement is a legally binding document signed voluntarily and equally by the Guangzhou Development District Talent Work Group (Party A), the scholarship recipient (Party B), and the recipient’s guarantor (Party C), outlining terms related to the scholarship and post-graduation commitments.
A8: The guarantor (Party C) must co-sign the Agreement and assume obligations, including joint liability for scholarship repayment, liquidated damages, legal fees, and other costs in case of the recipient’s breach.
A9: Recipients are responsible for securing employment or entrepreneurship opportunities independently. Huangpu District, a thriving hub for industries and innovation in Guangzhou, offers a robust ecosystem for career growth. The Guangzhou Development District Talent Work Group and NUS GRTII will support the recipients with information about recruitment events and job opportunities. A10: Recipients must report to Huangpu District within two months of graduation and work/start a business there for at least 24 months within 30 months upon graduation. Failure to meet these requirements constitutes a breach of the agreement, requiring a full refund of the scholarship and penalties as stipulated in the Service Bond Agreement.
A11: If a recipient can’t graduate within the normal candidature, he/she should require prior approval from NUS and NUS GRTII.
A12: Penalty amounts vary depending on the type of breach. For specific calculations, refer to the Agreement.
