First public appearance - Forum on "Innovation and the Future of Technology"

On November 6, 2023, the NUS(Guangzhou) Research Translation and Innovation Insitute (hereinafter referred to as the "Institute") successfully held a keynote lecture on "The Future of Innovation and Technology - NUS Perspective". This event marks the first public appearance of the Guangzhou Innovation Research Institute of New China University since its establishment, and also marks the official landing and operation of the research institute in the knowledge city. Mr. Zheng Yong, Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the China Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Cooperation Affairs Office, attended the podium and delivered a speech. Professor Kang Changjie, a foreign academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a member of the Singapore Academy of Engineering, and Honorary Executive Vice President of the National University of Singapore, as well as Associate Professor Zheng Zhiqiang, Associate Vice President (Innovation and Entrepreneurship) of the National University of Singapore, delivered keynote speeches.

The purpose of this event is to promote international higher education exchanges, explore the empowering role of technological innovation in the development of knowledge cities, and provide new opportunities for science and technology industry cooperation between China and Singapore. In the forum, two experts from the field of technology conducted in-depth analysis around keywords such as "technology, innovation, and transformation", focusing on interpreting Singapore's strategy, system, methods, and the transformation of cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements as an innovative country. Finally, the attendees had a comprehensive discussion on the future development opportunities of the Guangzhou Innovation Research Institute at the National University of Singapore, providing in-depth thinking and suggestions for the technology industry cooperation between China and Singapore.


Professor Meng Qiang, Dean of the Guangzhou Innovation Research Institute at the National University of Singapore, delivered an opening speech, looking forward to the future cooperation between the research institute and enterprises and universities in the Huangpu District. He said, "The research institute will fully leverage the international characteristics of the National University of Singapore and its advantages in industry, academia, and research resources, carry out international high-level talent cultivation and technology transfer and transformation. It is expected that within ten years, the National University of Singapore headquarters will cultivate more than 2200 professional talents such as master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral degrees for China, providing long-term strategic talent resources and intellectual support for the development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area."

Mr. Zheng Yong, Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the Cooperation Affairs Office of China Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, expressed the confidence of the research institute in injecting new vitality into the development of the knowledge city. He said, "In the future, the knowledge city will use the incubation resources of the research institute's scientific and technological achievements to promote the innovation and transformation of international scientific and technological achievements, introduce more high-quality projects, promote industrial optimization and upgrading, and give full play to the demonstration effect of the research institute as a flagship project of New China University in participating in the construction of the Greater Bay Area, injecting new momentum into the important scientific and technological innovation platform of the knowledge city in the Greater Bay Area."

Professor Kang Changjie, a foreign academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Singaporean engineering academician, and Honorary Executive Vice President of the National University of Singapore, deeply reviewed his historical origins with the Huangpu District and expressed confidence in the cooperation with the district. He emphasized the importance of innovation in the development of modern society and introduced the measures taken by the research institute to cultivate characteristic entrepreneurship courses for doctoral students in the China Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City. He expressed his determination to work together with the knowledge city to promote the application of technology and assist in the construction of the entrepreneurial city.
