On March 28, 2024, the NUS (Guangzhou) Research Translation and Innovation Institute (hereinafter referred to as the “Institute”) held a grand opening ceremony at the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, marking a new stage in the development of the Institute. Professor Tan Eng Chye, President of the National University of Singapore, personally led a delegation to participate in the event. Wang Guilin, Vice Chairman of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Director of the Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, Xian Yinsong, District Mayor of Huangpu and Executive Deputy Director of the Guangzhou Development Zone Management Committee, and other leaders attended the grand ceremony, witnessing this milestone moment together. At the same time, experts and scholars from well-known universities and research institutes in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as representatives of leading enterprises in the industry, gathered together to participate in the grand event.
The NUS(Guangzhou) Research Translation and Innovation Insitute is Unveiled
In his opening speech, Professor Tan Eng Chye, President of the National University of Singapore, stated that, “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is the most dynamic center for entrepreneurship and innovation in South China.As the fourth and latest innovation research institute of National University of Singapore in China, the Guangzhou Innovation Research Institute is the flagship project of National University of Singapore in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. We are delighted to be a part of this thriving center and ecosystem. In response to the technological development and market demand for industrial upgrading and transformation in Guangzhou (including Huangpu District), the National University of Singapore (Guangzhou) Research Translation and Innovation Institute will focus on smart cities, financial technology, information and communication, electronic science and technology, advanced manufacturing, and biomedical technology, among other key areas. National University of Singapore (Guangzhou) Research Translation and Innovation Institute will fully leverage the National University of Singapore’s expertise in entrepreneurship, thereby matching their developing talents with strong scientific research capabilities, helping them establish businesses or participate in the development of technology enterprises in the booming Guangzhou. Professor Meng Qiang, Dean of the Research Institute, said, “The National University of Singapore (Guangzhou) Research Translation and Innovation Institute is an important milestone in scientific research and education cooperation between the two countries. On site, the research institute signed strategic cooperation agreements with 13 enterprises and incubation intention agreements with the first batch of 9 startups. These 22 enterprises include both large high-tech enterprises and high growth specialized and innovative enterprises, covering multiple fields such as smart healthcare, artificial intelligence, and cross-border e-commerce.
This opening ceremony not only marks the opening of the physical space of the research institute, but also signifies that it will conduct in-depth research in cutting-edge fields such as smart cities, advanced manufacturing, and biomedical technology, helping China Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City and even the entire Greater Bay Area to build a global leading innovation talent highland and innovation driven development demonstration zone. With the official launch and operation of the research institute, it will further promote cooperation in science and technology, education, economy and other fields between China and Singapore, and contribute Singapore's wisdom to the construction of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area International Science and Technology Innovation Center.
