On August 15, the 9th "Maker China" biomedical Competition special enabling activity "Sail to Sea, Then Down to Nanyang - Global Entrepreneurs: The time for Chinese enterprises to go to Sea" was successfully concluded at the National University of Singapore Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute, guided by the Cybersecurity Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The event was guided by Guangzhou Bureau of Industry and Information Technology and the Organizing committee of the 9th "Maker China" Biomedical Competition, organized by Guangdong Dazhihui Holding Group Co., LTD and Bioisland Industry Incubation Service (Guangdong) Co., LTD, and hosted by Guangzhou Institute of Innovation, National University of Singapore. The event was strongly supported by the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Cooperation Office.


The "Maker China" SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (referred to as "Maker China") was launched by the Information Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for the ninth consecutive year. "Maker China" set up special competitions, regional competitions and oerseas regional competitions, and the winning projects of each event are recommended to enter the "Maker China" finals. As one of the special competitions of "Maker China", the "Maker China" Bio-pharmaceutical smes Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition is an event for the selection and cultivation of high-quality bio-pharmaceutical enterprises in the bio-pharmaceutical industry. In order to further stimulate the vitality of the industry and accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, the organizing committee of the event continues to carry out special enabling activities such as training and road shows.

This activity is divided into two parts: the special training of medical equipment going to sea and the special roadshow of "Maker China" biomedical special competition. Mr. Huang Weijian, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Cooperation Office, attended and delivered a speech. Deputy Director Huang Weijian said, "Biomedicine enterprises going to South Asia is a multi-dimensional process to grasp new opportunities, carry out technical cooperation and research and development, and achieve high-quality development... We look forward to taking the special training of this competition as an opportunity to help enterprises realize the leapfrog development of technology and the global layout of the market, and hope to attract more international partners to join us to jointly promote the high-quality development of the biomedical industry." .


The Guangzhou Development Zone, where the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City is located, is the first batch of economic and technological development zones established in China after the reform and opening up. In recent years, it has focused on building a complete biomedical industry chain structure, bringing together high-end bioscience talents, increasing policy support, gathering more than 4,800 biomedical enterprises, including 20 listed enterprises, and has developed into a major town in Guangzhou's biomedical industry and won the award of the Best Biomedical Park in China. Among them, the industrial output value of the Knowledge City area accounted for nearly 30% of the whole region last year, and the industry covers multiple directions such as drug research and development and manufacturing, medical devices, biosafety, and medical and health services, and the leading projects have a strong driving effect and the agglomeration effect is prominent. For example, BeiGene and Akeso, Inc. l have doubled their output value, and world-class innovative drugs represented by Cadonilimab Injectionl and Tislelizumab Injection are produced in knowledge City; Singapore companies such asBiosygen Pte Ltd  and Lion TCR Pte Ltd focus on cell therapy and develop rapidly in Knowledge City; Thermo Field, the world's largest supplier of scientific instruments and equipment, has transferred high-end chromatography, mass spectrometry, PCR and other instrument production lines to the Knowledge City for mass production.

Mr. Ye Junhong, Deputy Director of the South China Region of Enterprise Singapore, introduced the market environment and the ecology of the medical device industry in Singapore in detail. Singapore is home to more than 400 multinational and start-up medical device companies, including more than 50 multinational companies with regional headquarters and 25 research and development centers, and its medical device industry is known for its high output value and global importance in key areas such as genetic chips, mass spectrometry systems and heart implants. Fu Xiaofang, Executive Vice president of National University of Singapore Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute, shared the project of "Medical equipment Navigator" of National University of Singapore Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute. The program is an overseas study trip tailored by National University of Singapore Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute for medical industry pioneers who are interested in going overseas. It organizes field visits by domestic and foreign medical industry leaders to the complete ecology of world-renowned hospitals - parks - institutions - enterprises in the medical field of Singapore, arranges professional mentors to lead teams to participate in and explain world-class medical industry exhibitions, and conducts interactive research on the medical market environment in Southeast Asia. In-depth analysis of the path of medical industry innovation and globalization, to help Chinese medical enterprises take the first step to go overseas, and grasp the unlimited business opportunities in the global medical and health field.

Mr. Li Weisheng, a mentor of the world's top university incubator in Singapore, shared in-depth information about entering overseas markets, especially in the ASEAN region, from the perspective of medical devices. Mr. Lee has been in the Singapore market for more than 25 years, serving as the CEO and CFO of several medical technology startups, and has extensive industry experience in the medical technology sector. He detailed the status and potential of the ASEAN medical device market, including market valuation, growth drivers, and the strong demand for the medical device segment in the region. Mr. Lee also shared a pragmatic approach to entering the ASEAN market, including how to meet compliance requirements through technical documentation and risk classification.


At the same time, Mr. Li Weisheng is also one of the leading mentors of the "medical equipment Navigator" project of the National University of Singapore Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute. Through experience sharing and in-depth guidance, Mr. Li Weisheng will provide practical strategies and insights for Chinese medical device entrepreneurs participating in the project on how to expand the ASEAN market.

Lai Chengyi, co-founder of Singapore School of Economics and Management, shared online the international development strategy and implementation path of "Singapore +1" to help Chinese medical device enterprises. Mr. Lai Chengyi introduced Singapore's good policy and economic environment, and he pointed out that Singapore is not only one of the destinations for pharmaceutical equipment companies, but also an important springboard for the global layout of enterprises. Mr. Lai shared the opportunities, challenges and preparation required to go overseas in Singapore, and gave relevant advice to medical enterprises from an international perspective.
