Warm Congratulations to NUS GRTII Principal Investigator Professor Yang Hyunsoo on being elected an APS Fellow!
Publisher:NUS GRTIIRelease date:2025-11-14

Professor Yang Hyunsoo, a Principal Investigator at the NUS Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute and a faculty member at the NUS Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been elected a 2025 Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS).

As a doctoral supervisor at NUS GRTII, Professor Yang Hyunsoo mentors GRTII’s PhD scholarship recipients in frontier research areas such as novel electronic devices and wireless communication technologies.

Professor Yang Hyunsoo’s election as a 2025 APS Fellow, nominated by the APS Topical Group on Magnetism and its Applications (GMAG), recognises his outstanding academic achievements.

His nomination was based on significant contributions in two key areas: academically, his long-term, in-depth work in topological spintronics has yielded numerous groundbreaking results in spin-orbit torques and terahertz emission in two-dimensional materials; in service and leadership, he has demonstrated exceptional capabilities and gained wide recognition in educational leadership, scientific public service, and deep industry-academia integration.

The American Physical Society (APS), founded in 1899 with over 50,000 members, is one of the most prestigious professional physics societies worldwide. Since 1921, the Society has annually elected no more than 0.5% of its current membership as new Fellows, honouring their innovative contributions to advancing original research in physics, its application, and significant advancements in physics education and leadership.

At the recent 70th Annual Conference on Magnetism and Magnetic Materials (MMM 2025), a poster titled Bilinear Magnetoresistance in Conventional Heterostructures, co-authored by Professor Yang Hyunsoo and his PhD student Kim Dongjun, stood out among numerous entries and received the Best Poster Award.

The MMM conference, jointly organized by the American Institute of Physics Publishing LLC and the IEEE Magnetics Society, is the most influential international event in the field of magnetism, covering frontier topics such as magnetic recording, energy applications, and biomagnetism.

This election as a 2025 APS Fellow not only acknowledges Professor Yang Hyunsoo

‘s personal academic accomplishments but also reflects his broader contributions to advancing spintronics research, mentoring young scientific talent, and promoting the translation of research outcomes.

NUS GRTII extends its heartfelt congratulations to Professor Yang Hyunsoo on his election as a 2025 American Physical Society Fellow. We are confident that, inspired by his example, NUS GRTII will achieve further progress in physics and electronic engineering, contributing wisdom and strength to regional high-quality development.
