Professor Lim Chwee Teck, Principal Investigator at the NUS Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute (NUS GRTII), NUSS Professor at the NUS Department of Biomedical Engineering, and Director of the NUS Institute for Health Innovation & Technology (iHealthtech), has recently been honoured with yet another prestigious accolade. He has been elected as an International Member of the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE) .

Founded in 1964 under a congressional charter, the US National Academy of Engineering is an independent, non-profit institution and a part of the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. It provides objective analysis and expert advice on matters related to science, technology, and health. In 2026, the NAE elected 130 new US members and 28 new international members , a cohort that includes several Nobel laureates such as Jennifer Doudna and Moungi Gabriel Bawendi.
Membership of the US National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Honourees are selected annually by their peers for distinguished contributions to engineering research, practice, or education. Professor Lim Chwee Teck receives this honour for his exceptional contributions to the field of engineering—specifically, for systematically advancing the understanding of biomechanical mechanisms underlying human diseases and pioneering innovative technological pathways for disease diagnosis and treatment, thereby providing groundbreaking solutions to global healthcare challenges.
Professor Lim Chwee Teck currently serves as a NUSS Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the NUS College of Design and Engineering and is the Director of the NUS Institute for Health Innovation & Technology (iHealthtech). Having been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (UK) in 2024 and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK) in 2025, he became the first scholar in Singapore to be recognised by both of these world-leading scientific and engineering institutions. This election to the US NAE represents high-level international recognition of Professor Lim’s outstanding achievements and marks another significant milestone in his distinguished research career.
Professor Lim remarked: “I am deeply grateful to the US National Academy of Engineering for this recognition and affirmation. This honour is hard-won and truly the result of a collective effort. I thank my lab members, collaborators, and colleagues who have journeyed with me; it is their relentless efforts and selfless dedication that have made this accolade possible. I look forward to continuing to work alongside them, harnessing the power of science and engineering to safeguard human health and build a better world.”

Professor Lim’s research spans mechanobiology, microfluidics technology for medical applications, as well as wearable devices and AI systems for health monitoring and therapy. His team’s work has achieved breakthroughs in areas such as label-free cell capture and blood cancer screening , with relevant outcomes patented internationally and translated into practical applications. A globally renowned scientist, inventor, and entrepreneur, Professor Lim has co-founded six cutting-edge technology companies, successfully transforming multiple high-level research findings into medical solutions with tangible real-world value. One of these companies was listed in 2018, exemplifying a true journey from laboratory to the international market.
Furthermore, as a doctoral supervisor at NUS GRTII, Professor Lim is currently guiding PhD scholarship students in research on remote pulse monitoring sensor technology for telemedicine, exploring new paradigms for the future of healthcare diagnosis and treatment.
NUS GRTII extends its warmest congratulations to Professor Lim Chwee Teck on his election as an International Member of the US National Academy of Engineering. Under Professor Lim’s academic leadership, the Institute is poised to continue its pioneering innovation in biomedical engineering and health technology, fostering new heights in Sino-Singapore scientific research collaboration and contributing significantly to deepening bilateral friendly relations and advancing global human health.
